Top Tips for Graduation Day
Graduation is an exciting milestone, and a little preparation can help make your day as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. Here are my top tips for making the most of your graduation at Manchester Metropolitan University.
1. Register and Order Your Hat and Gown
One of the most important things to do before graduation is to make sure you have registered and ordered your academic dress. Check all the details in advance so there are no last-minute surprises.
2. Give Yourself Plenty of Time
Graduation days can be busy, so allow yourself plenty of time to get ready. You’ll need to collect your hat and gown before making your way to the ceremony hall, and there may be queues. Arriving early will help you stay relaxed and enjoy the experience.
3. Choose an Outfit That Makes You Feel Amazing
Make sure you’ve bought an outfit that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Whether you’re opting for a suit, dress, jumpsuit, or something in between, there are plenty of high-street and online stores offering great graduation options. Most importantly, wear something that helps you celebrate your achievement in style.
4. Plan Your Post-Graduation Celebrations
Many restaurants and venues offer graduation discounts and special menus during graduation season. If you’re planning a meal with family and friends after the ceremony, it’s worth looking around and booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
5. Capture the Memories
Take lots of photos and videos throughout the day. Graduation is a special moment that you’ll want to look back on for years to come. Celebrate with your family and friends, enjoy the atmosphere, and take time to appreciate everything you’ve achieved.
Final Graduation Day Tips (My personal ones)
- Don’t forget to bring bobby pins or safety pins. These can be incredibly useful for securing your gown or cape, and bobby pins can also help keep your graduation cap in place.
- If you’re planning to wear heels, consider travelling in flats and changing later. Your feet will thank you!
- Don’t rush when it’s time to cross the stage. For many graduates, this is their first time walking across a graduation stage, so take a moment to enjoy it and soak it all in.
- If the weather is warm, bring a bottle of water and perhaps a small handheld fan. You may be seated for a while before your name is called.
- Keep your phone charged/ bring portable charger so you’re ready for photos, videos, and keeping in touch with family and friends throughout the day.
- Also if you want to double check the colour of the gown, so you can colour code accordingly.
Most importantly, enjoy every moment. Graduation is a celebration of your hard work, resilience, and achievements. Take it all in, be proud of yourself, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
