In October 2025, the Pensions UK Annual Conference brought fresh energy to the industry as the Future Leaders initiative welcomed final-year students from Manchester Metropolitan University to take part in meaningful conversations about the future of pensions.
Led by lecturer Melanie McHale, the cohort of Banking and Finance and Accounting and Finance students spent the day exploring the foundations of pensions, gaining insight into career pathways, and hearing directly from industry leaders about their professional journeys.
Speakers included Mary Cahani from Invesco, Alex Jones from GMPF, Keerat Chana and Gavin Lewis from BlackRock, and Tiffany T. Tsang from Pensions UK. Each shared personal stories and practical advice, offering students a rare glimpse into the diverse roles and opportunities within the pensions sector. Their reflections were described by students as both inspiring and empowering.
In the afternoon, the students joined delegates and exhibitors in the main conference hall, engaging confidently in conversations and asking thoughtful questions. Their enthusiasm and professionalism stood out, with many making meaningful connections and gaining a clearer sense of where their degrees could take them.
Organisers expressed their appreciation to Pensions UK, Kate Hadley, Marketing Manchester, Manchester Central, and all those who contributed to the morning panels.
Special recognition was given to the students for their active participation and to Melanie McHale for guiding and supporting them throughout the day.
