Meet Dr Lotanna our Economics Programme Leader, MSc Applied Economics Lead and Applied Economics Knowledge Platform.

He is here to support your journey in Finance and Economics from the very beginning.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

"Thoughtful – I take time to reflect deeply before speaking or acting, always striving to consider others and the broader impact of my decisions.

Sincere – My strong Christian faith shapes my commitment to honesty, humility, and truthfulness in all aspects of life.

Diligent – Whether at work or home, I approach my responsibilities with care, consistency, and a deep sense of love, especially as a father and husband."

What areas of Finance and Economics are you most passionate about?

I am particularly passionate about quantitative and applied economics. I am drawn to how rigorous empirical methods can be used to uncover patterns, test theories, and inform effective policy.

What advice would you give to current students?

I would encourage current students to remain curious and open-minded throughout their learning journey. Don't just aim to pass exams; strive to understand the deeper “why” behind what you're studying. Build strong foundations in research methods and critical thinking, as these will serve you far beyond the classroom. Take initiative: seek out opportunities to apply your learning through internships, projects, or voluntary work, especially across different sectors. And finally, value collaboration, friendship, and networking. Learning to work well with others will be one of your greatest strengths in both academic and professional life.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

What I enjoy most about teaching is the opportunity to inspire intellectual and personal growth in others. There’s a unique satisfaction that comes from seeing a concept "click" for a student, especially when it’s something they initially found challenging. I also enjoy the dynamic nature of teaching: no two sessions are ever quite the same, and each interaction presents new questions, perspectives, and opportunities to learn alongside my students. It’s deeply rewarding to contribute to someone’s journey of discovery and to help them build confidence in their own abilities.

Fun fact about yourself

Most of my friends are often surprised to learn that I studied Economics and not Music, given how actively involved I am in musical events, ranging from church concerts to training others in vocal performance and music theory.
