Describe yourself in 3 words?
Organised, Efficient and Friendly. I always like to be prepared and plan ahead in everything that I do. I would rather meet a deadline one week early than one day before.
What advice would you give to current students?
Work hard and you can achieve anything in life. You will be respected by your peers, your managers and clients in your future career. Always do the right thing in difficult situations. It is important to always maintain your integrity and have a reputation as a trustworthy and ethical person.
What areas of Finance and Economics are you most passionate about?
I enjoy anything to do with corporate finance. The financial markets always capture my attention and I especially like to teach about how organisations can use hedging instruments to help manage their risk exposure.
What are some common misconceptions about Finance and Economics?
The biggest misconception is that accountants are ‘boring’ people. I have had some of the biggest laughs with colleagues over the years and have worked with some incredibly dynamic individuals.
What inspired you to pursue a career in Finance and Economics?
My dad was a self-employed joiner and my mum used to handle the bookkeeping side of things. When I was at high school, I used to help my mum arrange all of the invoices/receipts and enter then into the manual ledgers. I decided to take accounting as one of my A Levels and found I was quite good at it!
Fun fact about yourself
I used to be a ball boy for Sunderland Football Club when I was 13 years old. We got to the FA Cup final that season and I could see myself behind the goal on Match of the Day after the games!
