RSM placements are live! Read on to find out what Fawziyah got out of her year in industry

1. Why apply for a placement or internship role with RSM?

RSM is a midsized firm so while they aren’t the big 4 you still get to work for big name clients and are offered amazing training. When I first joined there was a residential and I got to meet a lot of new people. Additionally the people at RSM are really friendly and helpful.

2. What advice would you give to students submitting an application form for a role with RSM

If you don’t currently have any experience, I would advise you look for a part-time job or volunteering opportunity. All roles have transferrable skills you could apply to a role at RSM. If you are struggling you could try and find a job with Jobs4Students. If you are further in the application process, such as interview stage, I would recommend researching RSM and it’s core values. As an accounting and finance student you probably had to draft a CV for one of your university modules. Use the feedback from this improve your CV.

If you are still in the drafting stage you can find help on the careers website and use the CV builder or alternatively ask someone in the careers or placement team to check over this for you.

3. What skills and experience did you gain from your role?

I worked in tax so I got some insight into that area. This is benefitting me as I chose both personal and business taxation modules this year at university. I also know what to expect after I graduate and have become more disciplined.

4. What has been the longer-term benefits of your placement?

I think my placement has increased my confidence and allowed me to be more disciplined in getting things done such as managing deadlines and prioritising tasks.
